US supermajor Chevron is preparing to temporarily replace a damaged floating storage and offloading vessel at one of its offshore fields in Thailand with an old vessel that has a chequered recent history.
The vessel to be removed is the Benchamas 2 FSO, which needs repairs following a hull incident in March 2023 that led to the death of a crew member.
The FSO is ordinarily used for receiving and storing the oil that is produced from the Benchamas oil and gas field.
